According to WWD, Nordstrom is getting more serious about establishing a store in Manhattan as part of the chain's program to elevate its fashion profile and sustain expansion. Nordstrom was founded in 1901 as Wallin & Nordstrom by John W. Nordstrom, a Swedish immigrant who moved to the United States in 1887, and Carl Wallin, the owner of a Seattle shoe store, whom Nordstrom had met during the Klondike gold rush.
And Sir Paul Smith decided to open his new SoHo flagship on a lark. He's quoted as saying, "For years, I loved SoHo. Then I didn't like it so much because it seemed to attract all types of brands from all over the world, but it has taken a turn and has character again. I looked in the Meatpacking District, in Chelsea and uptown, but it was hard to find anywhere that had as nice a feeling as here." He set up his first shop in Nottingham in 1970. Smith took up fashion design after having been injured in a cycling accident.
The Nautica brand opened its first men's, women's and kids retail store in the United States at the Promenade Shops in Saucon Valley, PA on Friday, October 27, 2006. Currently, there are over 200 freestanding Nautica stores internationally.

The store is over 6,500 square feet and reflects the brand's new Navigator concept, which includes signature striped cherry and maple flooring and classic yachting details in the fixtures.
